Glossy waterlily leaves gracefully float on the top of the water, their peach pink flower petals gradually unfurling. The flat perspective of this linocut print is reminiscent of Japanese woodblocks, a source of inspiration that runs throughout my work.

🎨 How I Made It: This is a reduction linoprint, and is made up of three layers. I started with the pink of the flower petals followed by a sea green for the depths of the pond and a dark glossy green for the plant leaves. Each layer was printed on my Woodzilla printing press in my garden studio. I only made fourteen of these prints, so you'll be owning one of a select few pieces.

What is a Linocut?
What is a Linocut?
Linocut is a traditional relief printmaking process in which a design is carved into a sheet of lino by hand. Each colour is printed separately, working from light to dark. After every layer is printed, more of the lino is carved away before the next colour is added. Because material is removed at every stage, the original printing plate is gradually destroyed as the image develops, making it impossible to print additional copies once the edition is complete.
I print each edition by hand on my Woodzilla printing press in my garden studio. My editions are intentionally small, so every print is individually signed, numbered and one of only a limited number produced.
