Each May, Hawthorn hedgerows burst into flower, their branches covered in masses of delicate white blossom. This larger composition builds on my original Hawthorn Blossom design, repeating the same hand-carved motif four times around a central axis to create a striking botanical pattern.
Inspired by the coastal landscape of East Lothian, where hawthorn flourishes despite the sea winds, the repeating design reflects the rhythm and abundance of the blossom while transforming a simple botanical study into something more decorative.
Printed by hand in my garden studio, each print is individually signed and numbered as part of a limited edition. Once an edition is complete, no further prints can be made from the original plate.

What is a Linocut?
What is a Linocut?
Linocut is a traditional relief printmaking process in which a design is carved into a sheet of lino by hand. Each colour is printed separately, working from light to dark. After every layer is printed, more of the lino is carved away before the next colour is added. Because material is removed at every stage, the original printing plate is gradually destroyed as the image develops, making it impossible to print additional copies once the edition is complete.
I print each edition by hand on my Woodzilla printing press in my garden studio. My editions are intentionally small, so every print is individually signed, numbered and one of only a limited number produced.
