Four Calling Birds - 2026 Christmas Card

The Twelve Days of Christmas is a rich source of festive imagery. Four Calling Birds seemed a perfect way to give my botanical themed prints a wintry twist. Frequent visitors to my garden or flitting in and out of hedgerows, I enjoy featuring birds in my work. My four calling birds are all song birds belonging to the Thrush family, the most familiar being the Blackbird. The print also includes: songthrush, mistle thrush and a Fieldfare.

I transferred my original detailed drawing to a Lino plate before carving into the plate with my pfeil linocut tools. I used my smallest tool for most of the print due to the intricate nature of the design. I decided to print the finished plate in two colours. I chose a Christmassy palette of Forest Green and Berry Red. The original designs were both printed using my Woodzilla printing press in my garden studio.

These Christmas greetings cards are digitally reproduced from the original hand-carved linocut prints. The cards are left blank inside.
