Inspired by autumn walks and the changing hedgerows, Autumn Bouquet brings together clusters of brambles and hawthorn, celebrating the intricate shapes of their leaves and berries. The design grew from woodland walks with my young son, whose fascination with brambles encouraged me to look more closely at the colours and textures of the season.
Printed in a single hawthorn-berry red, this linocut was originally created for a live printmaking demonstration during the Dunbar Art Route at the Found Gallery. The simple colour palette allows the detail of the carving to take centre stage while reflecting the warmth of autumn.
Unlike most of my other prints which are limited editions, this print is an artist proof - a small, unnumbered but exclusive run of prints.

What is a Linocut?
What is a Linocut?
Linocut is a traditional relief printmaking process in which a design is carved into a sheet of lino by hand. Each colour is printed separately, working from light to dark. After every layer is printed, more of the lino is carved away before the next colour is added. Because material is removed at every stage, the original printing plate is gradually destroyed as the image develops, making it impossible to print additional copies once the edition is complete.
I print each edition by hand on my Woodzilla printing press in my garden studio. My editions are intentionally small, so every print is individually signed, numbered and one of only a limited number produced.
